Underdogs Athletics have announced Katelin van Zyl will be joining their team this year as a new Underdogs Athlete.
Fellow Australian athlete Ricky Garard has been with the Underdogs crew for the 2022 CrossFit season, resulting in a podium finish at the 2022 CrossFit Games after a 4-year break.
The Brisbane mum of 2 was previously part of the Australian Hockeyroos squad before she found CrossFit back in 2013. Since then, Katelin has been one of the top performing women in the Oceania region, shadowed by the powerhouse that is Tia-Clair Toomey. Most recently competing in a team with CrossFit Urban Energy.
Career highlights:
Individual
- 2019 Open – 2nd Australia, 31st Worldwide
- 2020 Open – 3rd Australia
- 2022 Open – 3rd Australia
Team
- 2021 Team Semi Finals – 2nd Oceania
- 2021 Team CrossFit Games – 7th
- 2022 Team Semi Finals – 1st Oceania
- 2022 Team CrossFit Games – 17th
We’re excited to see what Katelin can do in the 2023 CrossFit season as an individual athlete. Putting her name in the hat amongst other athletes such as Tia-Clair Toomey, Kara Saunders, Ellie Turner, Jamie Simmonds, Maddie Sturt and more, could see the 2023 Torian Pro being the most exciting Semi Final of the year.
Katelin is currently sitting 4th in the Wodapalooza qualifier, so we’re hoping to see her compete in Miami at the start of next year. After finishing 1st in the online qualifier for Down Under Championship, keep an eye out on Katelin during that competition starting 18th November in Wollongong, NSW.
